Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42, NIV).

The tortoise and the hare. This old, children’s story is more than child’s play. The approaches of the tortoise and the hare expose the differences between hurry and productivity.

Hustle. Go faster. Do more. These are the messages we hear every day.

“You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat” (Matthew 5:6, MSG).

Stella’s belly was upset. At first, her owners did not know why. Yet the veterinarian’s X-rays revealed that the Labrador had eaten eight pair of Lululemon underwear.

Stella must have good taste. The undergarments were valued at $200. Word has it that the next-door neighbor’s Boxer was envious of Stella’s ill-gotten booty.

“His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him”  (John 12:16, ESV).

“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the

  (Hebrews 12:2-3, NIV).

The headline read:
“US Runner, 105, Sets New World Record for 100m Sprint—But Feels Disappointed She Wasn’t Faster.”

Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins blew across the finish line in 62.95 seconds. (Her goal was to run the race in less than a minute.) The retired teacher began competing at the National Senior Games when she was eighty. She’s been running ever since.

“I’m not saying this because I need anything, for I have learned how to be content in any circumstance”
(Philippians 4:11, CEB).

Discontent is what I was given. My wife had called me while babysitting our infant grandson. I didn’t know exactly the nature of his complaint, yet Benji communicated in very clear terms his dissatisfaction with the present state of affairs.
