“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more” (Revelation 21:1, NRSV).

             As a Christian, what on earth am I here for? I’m not asking so much of an existential question, as one that is theological. If I believe in Jesus Christ and I am saved by faith rather than by works, then my ultimate hope is to return to my true home in heaven with the One who created me. However, what am I to do between my second birth in Christ and my eventual death? Am I simply buying time until the moment comes for me to cross the bar? Does what I do now and how I act in this life have any impact on the life to come?

Daily Devotion August 7, 2024

“…I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands…” (Revelation 20:4, NIV).
 

     I saw a bumper sticker the other day that read, “Do you follow Jesus this close?” The message was clear. Maintain a sure clear distance from the car in front of you.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE CURRENT SERMON SERIES, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CHAPTERS OF REVELATION:  Revelation: 20-22; IN PREPARATION FOR THIS SUNDAY’S MESSAGE.

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star” (Revelation 22:16, NIV).

             I am curious about the kind of language that is spoken in heaven. Will we be speaking Swahili, Yiddish, or Mandarin? Iay am-way ersoanlly-pay ond-fay of ig-pay Atinlay, which translated means, I am personally fond of pig Latin.
             One of the reasons Revelation is so difficult to interpret is because we aren’t familiar with the language. Revelation is spoken in code. The images of beasts and dragons both point to specific world powers. Numbers such as three and seven are symbolic of God or perfection.

Daily Devotion August 1, 2024

Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Favored are those who have been invited to the wedding banquet of the Lamb.” He said to me, “These are the true words of God”  (Revelation 19:9, CEB).
 
“So, you have pain now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you” (John 16:22, NRSV).
